I LOVE making zipper pouches…they are quick, small and fun to try new techniques without commiting to a lengthy project. I belong to a monthly zipper pouch club from Sew Lux Fabric. Every month I get a sweet little package with the new pattern, all the fabrics, the interfacing, and the zipper needed to make the pouch.
For the March kit, the pattern is called the Triple Crown Pouch and it has a coordinating pincushion! The instructions are very clear and super easy to follow! I did make a change with the interfacing used in the kit. It comes with Pellon SF101 and while it’s a great interfacing, I have really been liking the Pellon 931TD midweight fusible interfacing for pouches. It has a little more structure without being too stiff. It stands up on its own, as you can see in the photos below.
The only other change I made, was to make zipper tabs on the sides of the zipper. For some reason, I am never satisfied with zippers that just end in the seam allowance. They never look ‘finished’ enough for me, so I added these tabs.
I found this cute ribbon label that I had and added it to the lining.
The pincushion was a nice little bonus to the pattern! I love to make pincushions too! The leaves are appliquéd using fusible web, which is included…they really thought of everything in this kit!
Aren’t the pineapples so fun?! Did you know that pineapples represent warmth, welcome, friendship and hospitality in your home? Maybe my zipper pouch and pincushion will bring me more of these things this year!
