You’ve probably heard me say before that I love to make zipper pouches! They are quick, fun to make, and very handy to have! I have tried many, many patterns and this is one of my very favorites! This is called the open wide zippered pouch from Noodlehead. What I love about this pouch is that you can easily find things and that you can fit so much inside! Another plus is that it doesn’t have those pesky folded zipper ends on the sides! The pattern comes in three sizes, ranging from small to large. I used 1/4″ seam allowance instead of the 1/2″ in the pattern because my quilting brain likes this measurement and my quarter inch foot makes this so easy. This is the smallest size and measures about 9″ wide by 5″ tall. This is a perfect size to throw in your purse or tote bag.
Next is the medium size. This one is good for keeping on your counter with makeup or I like to keep my contacts, supplies, and eyeglasses inside. It measures about 11″ wide by 7″ tall.
The largest size is a big one! You could really use this one as a handbag! It measures 13″ wide by 8 1/2″ tall. This was a great opportunity to use a large scale print. I used a medium weight interfacing, Pellon 931TD, for these bags but I think for the large size, it would be nice to make it even more sturdy so that it supports itself better. The medium weight interfacing was perfect for the small and medium pouches.
I wanted to try and make a pretty beaded zipper pull and I found these adorable glass strawberry beads at Joann’s. You know how I love strawberries! I also added the lace and pom pom trims and a cute zakka twill tape applique.
For the lining of the large pouch, I added a pocket.
Here you can see all three sizes next to each other.
This pouch is one I made for my niece a while back in the medium size. I had a hard time parting with it…the print and ticking stripe is adorable!!
If you like to make zipper pouches too, I highly recommend trying Noodlehead’s open wide zippered pouch pattern! You will love it! I will be making a lot more of these pouches in the future!
